Cure your festive over-indulgence
It was the time of year which we all guilt-free self-indulgenced with abundance, from party to party. The festive season is behind us and now you might see and feel the effects of that party lifestyle; feeling sluggish, bloated, breaking out, and losing your oomph for life.
With hundreds of detox diets, and juicing options available online, it can all be a little overwhelming, and that’s what makes it so easy to give up. However, consistency is key and attention to the foundations of life is what will make us thrive, allowing us to become our healthiest, most authentic selves.
Our bodies are actually designed to engage in detoxification every single day, however from time to time we all need gentle reminders and a nudge in the right direction.
Here are 5 tips to help you get your OOMPF back:
1.Consume whole foods as close to their natural state as possible
Whole foods, allows your body to digest and metabolize them with ease, using less energy. Allowing more time for our body to naturally detox.
TIP: Think fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season, organic, and locally produced. Organic grains, beans, nuts and seeds.
2.Say no to sugar & caffeine
Caffeine and sugar cause havoc on our digestive systems, zapping our body of our natural source of energy by giving us that ‘quick fix’. By reducing both of these trigger foods our bodies will natural improve in digestion and energy levels, cancelling out the addictions all together.
TIP: Replace sweet cravings with natural whole foods; dates and honey. Replace coffee with green tea.
The majority of us are severely dehydrated day in day out. Start increasing your water levels, by drinking at least 2 litres of pure filtered water, green tea, or hot lemon water every day; hydrating our whole bodies & boosting metabolism.
TIP: Hot lemon water first thing in the morning helps activate digestion and releases toxins and bacteria from our skin and organs.
4.Get your ZZZ’s
Learn to rest the right way. Quality sleep is something half of us do not get enough of, yet it is crucial for a healthy body and mind.
TIP: Detox bath with Epsom salt & lavender improve quality of sleep and stimulate the PNS (Parasympathetic Nervous System) ‘rest and digest’ response in the body. A simple hot shower helps as well to calm the nervous system.
Turning off technology at least 30 minutes before going to bed aid in deep rejuvenating sleep. Meditation and mindfulness breathing relaxes the nervous system, and calms the replenishes the whole body.
5.Move your body in ways that are restorative
Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily, and that does not always mean an intense cardio workout. Aiding in relaxing exercises, such as; walking, jogging, hiking, or yoga are equally important and bring a healthy balance to our bodies whilst naturally lifting our metabolism in an organic way.
