Yin Yoga is rooted in Taoist origins and focuses on seated postures that target the connective tissues in the hips, pelvis and lower spine. It is a slow-paced practise that incorporates pranayama (breathing exercises), and holding postures for anywhere between 1-10 minutes, thus increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.
Props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks are often utilized for a more comfortable and relaxing experience. The aim is to reach a feeling of release and ‘letting go’ to bring about physical, mental and emotional relaxation and clarity. It is ideal for athletic types who need to release tension in overworked joints and is also well-suited for those who live a fast-paced lifestyle.
